CEO’s interview with INTTRA, CyberLogitec’s strategic partner in Automated Customs Filing Services 2015-01-12

INTTRA meets Jang-Rim Choi, CEO of CyberLogitec, to discuss how electronic shipping has benefited their customers.

What is CyberLogitec?

CyberLogitec is an IT company specializing in maritime logistics. Since 2000, CyberLogitec has offered cutting edge solutions and state-of-the-art IT services to ocean carriers and freight forwarders around the world.

What business challenge does CyberLogitec currently solve?

OPUS SmartLink – one of our products – is a logistics visibility solution that provides customs filing automation, monitoring, and error detection functions.

The customs filing services provided by OPUS SmartLink include U.S. AMS (Advance Manifest System), ISF (Import Security Filing), Europe ICS (Import Control System), Korea AMS (Advance Manifest System), China CCAM (China Customs Advance Manifest) and Japan AFR (Advance Filing Rules).

By responding to customers’ requirements in advance, OPUS SmartLink provides values for customer’s risk resolution, productivity improvement and compliance with regulations.

When and how did you hear about INTTRA?

We started working with INTTRA in 2003 when we were developing EDI links between them and our clients. We reached out to INTTRA on behalf of our clients who wanted to develop EDI with INTTRA. This was necessary in reducing the operational burden that many were experiencing in ocean exports. We started sending shipping instruction (304) messages for our clients through INTTRA shortly after.

When did your company decide to partner with INTTRA and why?

CyberLogitec started developing a strategic partnership with INTTRA in 2012 due to the growing demand of combined EDI services in shipping documents and customs filing.

What direct benefits have you seen partnering with INTTRA? Can you share a success story with us?

OPUS SmartLink provides a one-stop service for global customs filing to solve problems such as obtaining customs certifications in each country or integrating electronic documents. We at CyberLogitec wants to expand our one-stop customs filing service with shipping documents such as shipping instructions and carriers’ visibility. Through our service with INTTRA, we believe we can enhance our customers’ satisfaction levels.

Can you share an end customer success story with us, where one of your customers benefited from this partnership and how?

Many NVOCCs and container shipping lines which cover the Far East and the South East Asia, decided to adopt the OPUS SmartLink of CyberLogitec in order to prepare for the Japan AFR (Advanced Filing Rules), which will be enforced beginning March 2014.

OPUS SmartLink provides the visibility of the cargo status as well as the automated manifest declaration and monitoring focused on the actual manifest declaration process.

Customers can get benefits of the risk reduction, the improvement of productivity, and compliance with customs regulation.

As we are able to provide the combined service between OPUS SmartLink, the global customs service and INTTRA’s i-Link, the customer benefits from end-to-end processing of shipments, global visibility, and common documents and user interfaces.

Please share with us what you envision to be the “future of the ocean shipping logistics.”

We believe implementing EDI in communication with all trading parties will be increasingly more important. It will become necessary for NVOCCs to exchange their documents electronically not just with carriers, but with all of their trading partners, including global customs.

More will be implementing “Advanced Filing Rules”, especially in Asia. The Japanese government has recently passed new laws governing the demand for advanced filing of detailed cargo information prior to the loading of the vessels at origin. The law requires ocean carriers and non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs) to electronically submit detailed information regarding ocean imports into Japan. This law will go into effect on March 2014.
